About the X One The X One was designed by Alfred Westmacott, who was Managing Director of Woodnutts Boatyard at St Helens on the Isle of Wight. He specialised in building small day racing boats and these included the Seaview Mermaid, Solent Sunbeam and Victory. The boat was first raced in Southampton Water in 1911 and there were special centenary celebrations during Cowes Week in 2011. Lallow’s have built 28 X One boats and there have been around 90 Cowes Week Winners over the years. At least 14 boats have won the Captains Cup which was introduced in 1930 and is awarded to the most successful owner in each Cowes Week.
